Destination Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia.
Banda Mahatma Salvador in more detail.
Wednesday 26 July, 8 pm.
In 1998, Banda Mahatma Salvador was founded, as a new Bahian music movement: music with danceable rhythms and with lyrics about peace, internal harmony, and above all, against violence. The group intermingles the lyrics and music in simple creations that should attract people interested in their music. “Their danceable music also must encourage people to think about the message of the lyrics”, according to Geo Varela, producer of Banda Mahatma.
Quarta da Paz
Banda Mahatma had their performances at most Quartas da Paz, often together with “Filhos de Gandhy”. Recently, the group released their own Live CD. In 2002, Banda Mahatma was awarded audience and jury prizes for their performances. In 2006 Banda Mahatma was composed of the members: Roberto Patinho (vocals), Ricardo Márquez (guitar), Georges Sales (double bass), Rogério Lustosa (keyboards and responsible for musical arrangements), Geo Varela (drums), Dinho and Juninho (percussion), Ítalo (saxophone), Valdir (trumpet) and Fernando (trombone). Some years ago, Ireno Finguer became the new lead singer.
