Avenida da Paz
From downtown Maceió, you only need to walk a few hundred meters to reach the nearest beach. This beach is located parallel to Avenida da Paz. You won’t meet many beach goers there. The beach is not that beautiful, and stretches along the highway. Not very inviting for many tourists. When you follow this beach in the direction of the harbor, and continue the pavement along the avenue, you will reach Pajuçara Beach. This beach is one of the most beloved urban beaches in Brazil.
Richard and I spent our final afternoon at the beaches of Pajuçara and Ponta Verde. We made long walks on this sunny and warm day. It was Saturday, the beaches were quite crowded. Many locals and some tourists went to the beach, to relax, and to cool down a bit on such a warm day. The boulevard, parallel to the beach, was crowded with tourists and ambulant sellers. The sold soda, beer, ice cream, snacks. Their merchandise is considerably cheaper than what is offered at the beach barracks. Despite this difference, the barrack owners appeared not to be bothered by the cheaper ambulant sellers. One of the sellers was very skilled in creating hats from palm leaves. He proudly showed his palm leaf hats. Real artwork.
