Dia do Oftalmologista
(Ophthalmologist). The date refers to the foundation of Sociedade de Oftalmologia de São Paulo (São Paulo Ophthalmologist Society) in 1930. In 1968, the day was introduced in the state of São Paulo, and in 1986 the day gained a national status.

Dia da Saúde Ocular
(Ocular Health). Analogue to the Dia do Oftalmologista, Dia da Saúde Ocular is on 7 May. However, the Dia Mundial da Saúde Ocular (World Ocular Health Day) is on 10 July, referring to the birth of British ophthalmologist Harlod Ridley (1906-2001), who pioneered intraocular lens surgery for cataract patients. World Sight Day is on 10 October.
