Dia das Paneleiras
(Pot makers). A Brazilian tradition for over four hundred years: panelas de barro, ceramic pots. This craft is mainly located in the state of Espírito Santo. After more than four centuries, the original recipe remained intact. The clay is still being excavated at the same location, manipulated in the correct, round shape, and baked under the right conditions. These pans are now sold in specialized stores. Pottery is also found in large numbers for bargain prices along the highways.

Dia do Pacificador
(Peacemaker). Brazil faced numerous conflicts in the first years as an independent country, with countless secession attempts. Many military expeditions were dispatched to suppress these revolts. The famous Duque de Caxias, who had many such expeditions on his name, was nicknamed “O Pacificador” (peacemaker) because of his efforts to bring the warring parties closer together (if necessary with military force). One of the Brazilian awards is called “Medalha do Pacificador “.

Inauguration of the railway track between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
After the conclusion of the connection between the lines Estrada de Ferro São Paulo and Estrada de Ferro D. Pedro II, rail traffic became possible between the two cities. Only a few decades later, the track suffered fierce competition from the airlift (ponte aerea) between the two cities. Recently, a high-speed line is being constructed, allowing the train to run with a speed of over 300 km to 400 km per hour.
