The founder of the modern veterinary science was the Greek scientist Apsirtos, who described many observations in great detail. The study of Veterinary Science was first started in French Lyon, in 1761. Only in 1910, the first studies of Veterinary Science were started in Brazil, at the Escola de Veterinária do Exército. The military veterinarians commemorate their specific day on June 17, the day of the foundation of the military veterinary science study. In 1963, a law was introduced, making possible the foundation of federal and regional council of veterinary medicine.

Introduction of the law (Lei 1.829) for the first census in Brazil.
Before 1870, only rough estimations exist about the size of the Brazilian population. In 1776, Brazil counted 1.9 million people. In 1808, this number was increased to 4 million. Nearly fifty years later, in 1856, the Brazilian population almost was doubled to 7.7 million. The methods used differed significantly, there was a big need for a census. The 1870 law, indicated the reference date of August 1, 1872. At that time, 9.930.478 people were counted. The second census came shortly after the proclamation of the republic, in 1890: 14.333.915 people were counted.
