Creation of the city of Lagoinha (SP).
The city is located on the historical route, on which tropeiros (drovers) transported coffee to the nearest harbor. In 1863, a chapel for Nossa Senhora da Conceção was erected, which symbolized the status of a settlement. In 1880, the settlement was elevated to the status of a village, and named Lagoinha. In 1900, it became a municipality, but about three decades, later, it returned to the status of a district. At present, agriculture and cattle breeding are the main economical activities of the almost five thousand inhabitants.
Murder of Luis Martinez.
Luís Antônio Martinez Corrêa was a theater director in Rio de Janeiro, when he was brutally murdered with more than eighty stab wounds in his apartment, because of his homosexuality.
Humanist priest Antônio Vieira condemned to reclusion and silence.
The Portuguese Inquisition had already kept him in prison for over two years, when he was sentenced and prohibited from teaching, writing and preaching. A few years later, he had written a report for the pope about the inquisition in Brazil, which was subsequently suspended for seven years.
Brazilian soap series ‘Despedida de Casado’ censored and banned from TV.
The series, to be broadcast by TV Globo, initially was approved by the censors, but after having evaluated the episodes already recorded, the censors had changed their mind. The series were banned, since the story was not according to the ethical values: the main character was in search of free love and enjoying her life as a single. The series, re-edited, is planned to be broadcast in 2016.
