José Bonifácio gave the order that laws from motherland Portugal should have his approval before they came into effect.
1861
Birth of priest and scientist Roberto Landell de Moura, in Porto Alegre (RS).
Roberto is considered as the inventor of the radio. In 1893, before scientist Guglielmo Marconi tested his first radio experiment, Landell realized, from the top of Avenida Paulista to the top of Santana, the first transmissions of telegraph and wireless telephone.

Political pact between Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay against anarchist movements in the three countries.

Discovery of the first oil well in Brazil, in the state of Bahia.
