Dia da Internet
(Internet). At present, a world without internet is just unthinkable, while it is only a few decades ago that internet was introduced. In the sixties of the past century, the American army set up an internal communication network (‘interconnected networks’) between the army bases: the ARPANET. This network ceased to exist in 1988. With the transition to the Transmission Control Protocols (TCP)/ Internet Protocol (IP) system, internet became publicly accessible, in 1983. However, it lasted until te nineties, before the public showed serious interest in this new medium. Internet even has a patron saint: St. Isidorus of Sevilla, who had written an encyclopedia in his live (ca.560-636): Etymologiae. The IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) controls the issue and information of the IP-addresses.

Dia do Ikebana-Sanguetsu
(Japanese Flower Arrangement). This day was introduced in the state of Rio de Janeiro in 2003. The composition of this (traditional) type of flower arrangements is based upon shapes, lines, rhythm, and color. Not only flowers are used, but also stems, branches, and leaves for the decoration of the composition. Ikebana Sanguetsu is a Ikebana philosophy that tries to realize the human sentiment behind the flower arrangement. Patron of this philosophy is the Japanese Mokiti Okada (1882-1955), who introduced this philosophy in 1971. In 1974, the Ikebana Sanguetsu was introduced in Brazil.
