President Ernesto Geisel announced general Figueiredo as his successor.

Announcement of the discovery of oil wells near the coast of Espírito Santo (Campo do Golfinho), by Petrobrás.

2007
YouTube site blocked in Brazil.
The ban was to prevent viewing the video of Daniella Cicarelli. A paparazzo shot a video of her having sex with her boyfriend on a beach in Spain. A lawsuit resulted in the ban for two days. YouTube won the case in 2007, but the lawsuit is still going on.

2009
Renault fired one thousand workers in São José dos Campos, for a period of five months.

1855
Birth of Raimundo Teixeira Mendes, designer of the Brazilian national flag.
Raimundo was philosopher and mathematician, and is also credited for the Brazilian motto “Ordem e Progresso’ (Order and Progress).
